Atrial Flutter Market Estimated to Flourish by 2025

Atrial flutter is abnormal heart rhythm. It is characterized by atrial rates of 240 to 400 beats per minute and blockage in atrioventricular node. Atrioventricular node controls the heart rate and is one of the major elements in the cardiac conduction system. Atrial flutter leads to irregular electrical impulse of the heart resulting in disorganized contraction in parts of heart and disability to pump required amount of blood. The common causes of atrial flutter include excessive alcohol consumption, coronary heart disease, heart bypass surgery, hypertension, heart valve disease, overactive thyroid gland, and sick sinus syndrome.

Rise in number of people with common diseases such as diabetes and obesity is expected to drive the global Atrial Flutter Market during the forecast period. Increase in prevalence of heart diseases such as congestive heart failure, heart attack, and stroke are also likely to propel the market. According to the World Health Organization, cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death globally. More people die annually from cardiovascular diseases than from any other cause. Cardiovascular diseases accounted for an estimated 17.7 million deaths in 2015, representing 31% of all global deaths. Of these deaths, an estimated 7.4 million were due to coronary heart disease and 6.7 million due to stroke.

The global atrial flutter market can be segmented based on type of atrial flutter, treatment type, end-user, and region. In terms of type of atrial flutter, the market can be categorized into typical atrial flutter, reverse typical atrial flutter, incisional atrial re-entry, left atrial flutter, and atypical atrial flutter. Based on treatment type, the global atrial flutter market can be classified into catheter ablation treatment, acute treatment, anticoagulant treatment, surgical treatment, and others. Based on end-user, the market can be divided into hospitals, electrophysiology labs, ambulatory surgical centers, and others.

In terms of region, the global atrial flutter market can be segmented into North America, Europe, Asia Pacific, Latin America, and Middle East & Africa. North America dominated the global market in 2016, owing to increase in prevalence of heart diseases. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, heart disease accounts for about 610,000 deaths in the U.S. each year i.e., 1 in every 4 deaths. Coronary heart disease (CHD) is the most common type of heart disease, accounting for over 370,000 deaths annually. Europe is expected to be the second largest market in terms of revenue. The market in the region is likely to be driven by increase in adoption of technologically advanced products, advanced health care facilities and infrastructure, and rise in prevalence of hypertension and obesity.

Asia Pacific is anticipated to register high growth from 2017 to 2025 due to factors such as increase in disposable income and aging patient population. According to the United Nations ESCAP, Asia Pacific is home to about 60% of the world’s geriatric population, defined as people at 60 years and older. The geriatric population is expected to more than double from 547 million in 2016 to nearly 1.3 billion by 2050. Countries such as Brazil and Mexico are expected to contribute to the growth of the market in Latin America due to improving medical infrastructure.
